The night air was thick with anticipation as the Resistance group huddled in a shadowy alley, their eyes fixed on the imposing silhouette of the German administrative building just across the street. The soft glow of flickering lamplight did little to dispel the darkness that had swallowed the city whole.
"Remember, we'll only have one shot at this," Noah whispered, his breath condensing in the cool air. He felt his heart pounding against his ribcage like a caged bird; it was a mix of fear and adrenaline that coursed through his veins.
"Stay sharp and stick to your roles," James added, his voice equally low. "We need to get in, destroy the list, and get out before anyone knows what hit them."
As they prepared for the moment of truth, Céline Dubois, an invaluable member of the French Resistance, suddenly appeared beside them. She was all grace and determination, her dark eyes burning with purpose. "I can help you break into the building," she said quietly. "I know the layout and security measures."
"Are you certain?" Noah asked, studying her face carefully. There was no trace of hesitation in her eyes, only resolve.
"Absolutely," Céline replied, her voice steady. "I want to help the Resistance and destroy that list. It's time we take back our city."
"Alright," James agreed, nodding towards her. "You're with us."
Noah looked around at the faces of his comrades, taking a moment to memorize each one. They were a motley crew united by a common cause, and despite the danger they faced, he couldn't help but feel a fierce sense of pride in their shared defiance.
"Let's go," he murmured, and the group moved as one towards the looming structure.
Céline led them deftly past guards and security checkpoints, her intimate knowledge of the building proving invaluable. As they slipped through the dimly lit hallways, Noah felt an uneasy mixture of relief and dread inching its way up his spine. They were so close to their goal, yet one mistake could mean disaster.
"Here," Céline whispered, stopping before a door marked "Archives." Her eyes flickered to Noah, seeking confirmation.
"Let's do it," he said, his resolve firm.
The group entered the room filled with shelves upon shelves of documents. The list they sought was nestled among countless other records, but they didn't have time to search for it individually. Instead, they set about dousing the entire room with gasoline, the fumes stinging their nostrils and causing their eyes to water.
"Everyone out!" Noah commanded once the task was complete. As they fled the room, he tossed a match over his shoulder, the flames erupting behind them with ferocious intensity.
"Go! Go!" James shouted, urging the group forward as the fire roared to life, consuming everything in its path.
Noah's mind raced as they navigated their escape, the heat of the fire at their backs pushing them onward. *We need to get out of here and back to the safe house*, he thought, *but we can't risk leaving a trail*.
"Down this way!" Céline called out, leading them towards a side exit that would provide a quick escape.
